Uniross prepares for rise of rechargeables with WWF
The brand is expecting environmental concerns to increase use of rechargable batteries, instead of disposable alternatives. The WWF has endorsed the product, which uses recycled materials in its packaging, also from Landor Paris, to emphasise its green credentials. The structure of the pack allows it to be freestanding, or to be included on a conventional hanging display.
The Uniross range includes 14 different packs of batteries and 14 varieties of charger, divided into three ranges: Multi-Usage, Multi-Usage+ and Performance. Sales will extend to John Lewis in March, then to Homebase and B&Q, following the product's initial launch in Argos.
"2008 is set to be the year where rechargables go mainstream," says Uniross managing director Peter Keen. He says the range, "Fully reflects consumer needs, simplifies the buying process and gives retailers an environmental angle."
Promotional devices will include free chargers with battery purchases, intended to encourage uptake of the rechargeable range.
