… As supermarkets also quizzed over groceries

Published: May 2008

The office of Fair Trading is reported to have made surprise visits to the head offices of Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's and Morrisons and consumer goods companies Unilever and Proctor and Gamble as part of an investigation into more alleged price fixing claims, this time involving groceries and toiletries.

The OFT declined to comment but P&G confirmed it was visited by the OFT and is cooperating with its inquiries. P&G has no further information at this stage.

This comes just days after the OFT allegations against two major tobacco manufacturers and 11 retailers for cigarette price fixing, and after the OFT was ordered to pay Morrisons £100,000 in damages after false accusations of the supermarket's involvement in milk price fixing. Morrisons declined to comment.
